Week 8: Newborn Drone

Weak as a kitten, this drone must've just chewed his way through his cell capping and fallen to the floor. He isn't even strong enough to stand yet.

For the next day or two, he'll be fed by his sisters. Then he'll learn to feed himself and begin to eat stored honey. In a week or so, his flight muscles will be developed enough for him to take orientation flights so, in case he isn't successful finding a queen, he can find his way back to the hive.

From egg to emergence, drones take 24 days to complete metamorphasis, so our queen laid his egg on 6/29.
