Day 29: the Lindens are in Full Bloom

We didn't see brood during our last (first) inspection, and haven't even looked in the window for a week, so I've been worried about the colony. Growing bees need pollen, which has more protein ounce-for-ounce than beef. Since the foragers aren't returning with loaded pollen baskets, does that mean there's no brood?

Then this morning I finally saw them returning with pollen, and lots of it. What a relief! Patience is a virtue. There really is no need to open the hive and disturb the bees. Watching them come and go really does tell you all you need to know.

But worry not, we will be opening the hive and taking pictures. It's time to "super" the hive.
